Everything about spend cycles, caps, automatic checkout discounts, enrollments and troubleshooting.

Programs & billing

How do spend cycles and spending limits work?+

Each enrollment tracks spend toward a cycle limit over a cycle length (for example, 30 days). Spend counts as merchandise total as if the program discount was not applied. When a paid order uses the program discount, remaining cycle spend updates. Checkout reads the last synced remaining balance from customer metafields, so rapid successive checkouts can briefly overshoot until paid orders sync. When the cycle ends, it can roll forward; Settings control whether discounted spend carries into the next cycle.

What do Active, Draft, and Archived mean for programs?+

Active programs sync an automatic discount and can apply at checkout for enrolled customers. Draft programs are saved for editing but do not give discounts until you set them to Active and save. Archived programs also stop discounts but keep enrollments and order history; use Archive from the programs list (draft only) or set status to Archived on the edit page. Active programs cannot be archived or deleted until you set them to Draft first. Hard delete is only available on the edit page and permanently removes enrollments and program attribution.

I deleted the automatic discount in Admin but the program is still Active. How do I fix it?+

Open the program in this app and save it again (no changes needed). Saving re-syncs the automatic discount in Shopify Admin and links it to the program. The Dashboard may show a warning that an active program has no discount synced until you do this. Do not create a new discount manually in Admin—the app must create an automatic app discount wired to the program-discount function.

What happens when I delete a program in the app?+

Delete is permanent and only available for Draft or Archived programs—set an Active program to Draft and save first. Deleting removes all enrollments for that program, clears checkout metafields so those customers stop receiving the discount, and deletes the linked automatic discount in Shopify Admin. Past orders stay in your store, but program attribution in this app is lost (analytics rows are no longer linked to that program). This cannot be undone.

The automatic discount in Admin says all customers are eligible. Is that true?+

No. Shopify Admin shows that for app-based automatic discounts because eligibility is enforced at checkout by the program-discount function, not by Admin’s customer picker. Only logged-in customers with an active enrollment receive the discount.

What do plan limits mean?+

Billing plans cap how many active programs and enrollments you can run. The Dashboard and Billing pages show usage. Free and lower tiers may also show order-volume guidance when your store grows.

How do order tags work?+

In Settings you can define tags applied to paid orders that used a program discount. The program title is also tagged on those orders so you can find them in Admin. Orders that received a program discount after cycle remaining was already exhausted also get a fixed program-overspend tag.

Customers & enrollments

Can a customer be in more than one program?+

No. Each customer can have only one enrollment per shop. To move someone, change their program on the enrollment, or unenroll them and enroll them in another program.

What is the difference between pausing an enrollment and Pause all?+

Pausing one enrollment stops discounts for that customer only. Pause all enrollments in Settings turns off program discounts storewide until you turn it off again.

How does bulk enroll work?+

On paid plans, Customers lets you upload a list of customer emails to enroll into a program. Already-enrolled customers and emails not found in your store are skipped. Check the result toast for enrolled vs skipped counts.

What are enrollment overrides?+

On a customer’s enrollment you can override cycle length, spending limit, validity, or discount percent for that person only. Leave overrides empty to use the program defaults.

What happens when an enrollment expires?+

Expired enrollments no longer receive discounts. You can set a new expiry on the enrollment edit page, or unenroll and enroll again if you prefer a clean start.

Storefront & checkout

Can program discounts stack with other discounts?+

Only if Allow stacking with other discounts is on in Settings, and the other discount also allows combining. Otherwise the program automatic discount may not combine with product, order, or shipping discounts.

What happens when cart spend exceeds remaining cycle spend?+

Settings control this: discount only the remaining eligible spend, apply no discount, or cap the discount amount. Pick the behavior that matches how you want limits enforced at checkout. These rules apply to a single cart against the last synced remaining balance; see the FAQ on rapid successive checkouts for multi-tab overshoot.

Can rapid successive checkouts exceed the cycle spending limit?+

Yes, briefly. Checkout applies the program discount from the customer’s last synced remaining balance. Remaining only updates after the order is paid, so multiple tabs or fast back-to-back checkouts can each receive a discount against the same remaining amount. The app then records overspend on those paid orders, tags them program-overspend in Shopify Admin, and shows a Dashboard health banner for the last 30 days so you can review and refund excess discount if needed. Cycle spend accounting itself is locked so concurrent paid orders do not under-count in the database.

Why didn’t the program discount apply at checkout?+

Common causes: the customer is not logged in; enrollment is paused or expired; the program is Draft; Pause all enrollments is on; the automatic discount failed to sync; or the cycle spending limit is used up. Guest checkout with an enrolled email also does not qualify—see the FAQ on guest email at checkout. Check Dashboard health banners, the customer’s enrollment, and Settings.

Does entering an enrolled customer’s email at checkout apply the discount?+

No. Program discounts apply only when the customer is logged into their Shopify account with an active enrollment. Entering an enrolled email as a guest does not apply the discount, even after refreshing checkout. Ask customers to sign in before or during checkout.

Why doesn’t the discount show in the cart right after login?+

If items were added while logged out, the cart page or drawer may not show the program discount immediately after the customer signs in. Shopify recalculates automatic discounts when the cart changes or at checkout—not on login alone. The discount usually appears after updating quantity, adding another item, or going to checkout. Encourage customers to log in before shopping, or update the cart after signing in.
